For copyediting and proofreading, I normally bill according to the number of pages rather than the time spent. Since page counts vary with type size and spacing, I use a measure of 1650 characters to calculate the number of standard pages.
My standard rates are:
- copyediting at 8 € per 1650 character page
- proofreading at 4 € per 1650 character page
- other text services (e.g., fact-checking) at 2 € additional per page
